Sure is an exciting time for Christianity. I'm really turned on these days by the work of   The Jesus Seminar folk,  especially  Robert Funk's  work.

In the 16th century started the effort in many quarters of Christianity to penetrate the tradition and ritual of the Church and  once more clearly  see  the real Jesus Christ  portrayed in the early church's tradition and gospel writings.  Today,  Funk and his Jesus Seminar associates are pushing for an even clearer view of   the Jesus of Nazareth behind the  writings \mythology  of the 1st century Church (A.D.).

Thus, the aching question presents itself;  " Will the REAL Jesus Christ please stand up?"

The results of  TJS studies are far from  academic.  Central  is the question who was   this  1st century AD  Palestinian peasant prophet  called Jesus of Nazareth.   And what did he say?   And
what did he really do?  The answers  will  determine  a revised  picture of  God .

The Jesus Seminar         Books

"Jesus did not ask us to believe that his death was a blood

sacrifice, that he was going to die for our sins."
"Jesus did not ask us to believe that he was the messiah. He

certainly never suggested that he was the second person of the

trinity. In fact, he rarely referred to himself at all."

"Jesus did not call upon people to repent, or fast, or observe

the sabbath. He did not threaten with hell or promise heaven."

"Jesus did not ask us to believe that he would be raised from the dead."

"Jesus did not ask us to believe that he was born of a virgin."

"Jesus did not regard scripture as infallible or even inspired."

So says Robert W. Funk, Architect and Founder of the Jesus

Seminar, in a Keynote Address to the Jesus Seminar Fellows.
