A couple of Jesus Seminar scholars have recently
publicly insisted
their group is definitely not
throwing out
parts of scripture or Christian doctrine.
I beg to differ.
I'm reminded of a visit many years ago to the home
of Dutch-Canadians in
eastern Ontario, Canada.
As I was leaving I noticed a plaque on the wall
with some words in Dutch. I asked my friend the
translation and he
said "Guests always give pleasure
here either by their coming or their
going!?
The radical Jesus Seminar should not pretend
their studies will
leave the New Testament intact
as if "It was good enough for Paul (Mark or
Luke),
It's good enough for us (21st Century Christians)"
In fact,
several New Testament verses and ideas will
" give great pleasure in their
going."
I could cite several verses and ideas but one thing that
has to go is
anything in the New Testament that incites or
encourages
anti-semitism. In this connection I quote
a recent post to the
internet.

Anyway, if it were not for the demonization of the Jews by the Church
laying the foundation of prejudice, the Shoah (Holocaust) would not
have
happened. Not only that but the Church in Nazi Germany played
a
crucial role in Hitler's plans for the Jews by co-operating with state
officials.

"It is dishonest henceforth to refuse to face the
fact
that the basic root of modern
antisemitism lies squarely
in the
Gospels and the rest of the New Testament."

of Christianity",
